Religious leaders and anti-abortion activists have planned a protest in Chetumal, Quintana Roo State, Dec. 8. Participants will gather outside the State Congress building from 1200. The event could draw thousands of participants.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy heightened security at the protest venue; associated transport and business disruptions are also likely in the vicinity of the State Congress building. Although no rival groups have announced specific plans for counterdemonstrations, the possibility of such gatherings cannot be ruled out. The potential for skirmishes or other security disturbances will be higher if groups of opposing activists attempt to rally close to each other.

Avoid the protest as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach nearby destinations Dec. 8. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure location.
