Suspected separatists kidnapped between six and seven University of Bamenda students Jan. 7. The incident reportedly took place near the Mulang suburb on the north side of the city of Bamenda, when the assailants stopped the taxi carrying the students to class; the driver was subsequently released although the abductees are still being held. No claims of responsibility or ransom requests have been made as yet. The attack underscores the dangerous security situation in Bamenda and the high risk of kidnapping. Authorities could launch security operations over the upcoming days in an effort to release the captives.
