Emergency crews are responding to a large structure fire that broke out in a residential area of Baghbazar, North Kolkata, late Jan. 13. The blaze has created a large smoke plume in the area and spread to multiple buildings. The fire has apparently caused explosions of gas cylinders used as cooking fuel.
Officials have evacuated some occupied buildings near the incident. Authorities have also closed some nearby roads as a precaution. Traffic disruptions have been reported in nearby areas of North Kolkata. Localized disruptions are likely to continue until crews extinguish the fire and officials complete an investigation of the incident.
Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Heed the instructions of security officials and first responders. Allow additional time for ground transportation in the area. If operating nearby, consider remaining indoors to avoid smoke inhalation.
