Police are continuing their security operation at Frankfurt am Main Airport (FRA) during the early evening of Jan. 16. Authorities have evacuated and cordoned off parts of Terminal 1; the regional train station serving the facility has also been temporarily closed. Trains are not being diverted through the long-distance station.

The reason for the police operation remains unclear; however, unconfirmed reports indicate that it was launched in response to the presence of a potential explosive device. Authorities have given no indication as to when the operation may conclude.

Residual flight and regional rail disruptions are possible even after authorities have secured the area.

Advice

Heed the instructions of security personnel. Avoid the site of the operation until authorities have completed their investigation and given the all-clear. Confirm flight arrangements if traveling via Terminal 1 at FRA into the evening of Jan. 16; reconfirm rail travel arrangements if transiting through the regional station at the airport.
