The lockdown of the US Capitol Complex and surrounding area issued by authorities in Washington, DC, has been lifted. Earlier Jan. 18, several agencies, including the US Secret Service, responded to a small fire near 1st and F Streets SE. Out of an abundance of caution, the US Capitol complex was temporarily shut down, and individuals were advised to shelter-in-place. Emergency responders have extinguished the fire. According to security officials, there is no threat to the public.

Lingering disruptions are possible. Washington, DC, has an increased security posture ahead of the US Presidential Inauguration Jan. 20. Localized traffic and business disruptions are likely due to the high-profile event.
