Morocco: Protest to take place outside Casablanca-Settat region headquarters Jan. 21

Owners and workers of hammams, or traditional bathhouses, plan to protest outside the headquarters of the Casablanca-Settat region in Casablanca from 1100 Jan. 21. Protesters are calling for authorities to lift coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions and allow hammams to reopen. Dozens of individuals could attend the demonstration.

Authorities will likely deploy increased security to monitor the event. Localized transport disruptions are possible near the headquarters of the Casablanca-Settat region, the morning of Jan. 21. Clashes between police and demonstrators could occur; authorities may try to break up the protest to enforce COVID-19 gathering restrictions.
