Warning

Event

Lawmakers supporting the faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by chairman Kamal Pushpa Dahal plan to hold a sit-in protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu Jan. 27-Feb. 3. Organizers are denouncing Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli's decision to dissolve the parliament. Party members and supporters may also join the action; turnout may be in the hundreds.

Security personnel will likely monitor the protest and may erect roadblocks near the venue. Police may try to forcibly disperse protesters, possibly leading to clashes. Protesters may occupy nearby streets in case of a large turnout, causing localized transport disruptions.

Advice

Avoid the protest due to possible clashes. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, non-governmental building. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near the protest site.
