Officials declare a 1800-0600 curfew in Orlu and environs, Imo state, Nigeria, in response to violence Jan. 25-26.

Warning

Event

Authorities have imposed a nightly 1800-0600 curfew in the city of Orlu and the nine surrounding districts following violence, Jan. 25-26. The curfew will remain in place until further notice. Areas affected by the curfew include Orlu, Orsu, Isu, Njaba, Nwangele, Oru East, Oru West, Nkwere, Ideato North, and Ideato South. The edict follows clashes between security forces and members of the Eastern Security Network, an armed militia reportedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra secessionist group.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence in the affected local government areas; localized transport and commercial disruptions are likely. Locals opposed to the measure may stage protests; police will likely move forcefully to disperse any such gatherings that may materialize.

Advice

Strictly comply with the curfew and heed other instructions from local authorities. Remain courteous and cooperative if stopped by security personnel. Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Confirm deliveries and plan for potential shipping delays. Consider alternative shipping methods for time-sensitive cargo.
