Israeli security forces fatally shoot Palestinian driver during attempted ramming attack on checkpoint near Jerusalem on November 25; further low-level attacks expected over the near term



Border Police opened fire and killed a Palestinian driver during an attempted ramming attack at the az-Za'ayyem checkpoint near Jerusalem on Wednesday, November 25. The suspect approached the checkpoint and presented false documents during a routine check before they suddenly started driving towards Border Police officers, hitting and injuring one. The officers opened fire in retaliation, severely injuring the assailant, who later succumbed to their wounds.

Further similar low-level attacks are expected in the region over the near term.


Those in Jerusalem are advised to monitor developments to the situation, maintain a heightened level of vigilance, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and their home governments.

Some Western governments advise their citizens against all travel to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and areas near the Israeli-Lebanese, Israeli-Syrian, and Israeli-Egyptian borders.
