Event

A Tropical Storm warning is in effect for Martinique as of 02:00 (local time) on Tuesday, August 27, as Tropical Storm Dorian moves towards Dominican Republic. As of Tuesday morning, Dorian is located approximately 110 km (70 mi) southeast of St. Lucia and is moving west northwest at 20 kph (13 mph). The storm has maximum sustained winds of 85 kph (50 mph) and is expected to strengthen in the coming days into a hurricane by late Tuesday, August 27 (map here). Dorian is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 7-20 cm (3-8 in) in the Windward Islands from Martinique south to St. Vincent. Tropical storm conditions, including strong winds and rains are possible in the territory by the evening of Wednesday, August 28.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
