Avalanche hits resort in Andermatt (Uri canton) on December 26; two wounded and others feared missing



An avalanche hit a ski trail near a resort in Anderplatt (Uri canton) on Thursday morning (local time), December 26, wounding at least two people. Officials stated that four others were retrieved from the snow, and rescue workers are combing the area for others feared missing. The Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) maintains Level 3 (the third-highest level on a five-tier scale) avalanche and heavy snow warnings for the area as of Thursday evening. Consequent transportation disruptions are possible in the affected area in the coming days.
