5.1-magnitude earthquake strikes Bushehr province, with no casualties or material damages immediately reported December 27; aftershocks possible over the coming hours

The US Geological Survey recorded a 5.1-magnitude earthquake in southwestern Iran's Bushehr province at approximately 05:23 (local time) on Friday, December 27. The earthquake struck 44 km (27 mi) north of Borazjan at a depth of 38.3 km (23 mi). There were no immediate reports of injuries or material damage. Aftershocks are possible in the affected area over the coming hours and days.

Individuals in the region are advised to monitor the situation and prepare for potential aftershocks.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), move away from the windows, and not attempt to leave a building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
