Ecuador: Protest planned in Quito for September 29

Protest planned in Quito for September 29; avoid protest sites

Warning

Event

The Ecuadorian political group Union for Hope Coalition (UNES) has called for a day of protest action on Tuesday, September 29, to demonstrate against alleged government infringement on political and electoral rights. A protest has been scheduled for 10:00 (local time) in front of the National Electoral Council (CNE) building in Quito. UNES has held several protest marches in recent weeks, all leading to the CNE, and organizers have asked for a permanent vigil to take place in front of the building. Associated protests may take place nationwide on Tuesday.

A heightened security presence and associated disruptions to transportation and business are likely during the course of the protest.

Advice

Those in Ecuador are advised to monitor developments, avoid protests and large gatherings due to the risk of associated violence, and adhere to instructions issued by the local authorities.
