Weather officials issue weather warnings for strong winds nationwide April 16-17; associated transportation disruptions expected

The Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Centre issued weather warnings for winds forecast nationwide from Thursday, April 16, through Friday, April 17. Orange warnings (second highest on a four-tier scale) will remain in effect until at least 22:59 (local time) on Friday in the central and eastern Zemgale, Latgale, and Vidzeme regions where wind gusts of up to 90 kph (56 mph) are expected. An additional yellow warning (third highest on a four-tier scale) will be in place until Friday evening in the western Kurzeme region.

Related transportation disruptions, hazardous driving conditions, and power outages are possible over the coming hours and days.
