Demonstrations planned in Bamako on February 27-28; heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions expected

US diplomatic sources have warned of protests set to take place in Bamako on Thursday, February 27, and Friday, February 28. On Thursday, former police recruits will gather at 07:00 (local time) in front of the Ministry of Security to participate in a sit-in to express their dissatisfaction. The event has not been authorized by local authorities.

The Platform Against Corruption and Unemployment has called for a march on Friday to demand the re-opening of schools. Civil organizations, unions, and school partners will gather at Monument de l'indépendance at 14:00 and march to Monument de la Paix. This march has been authorized by local authorities.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations and along all demonstration routes.
