At least 50 people, including five policemen, have reportedly been injured in clashes that erupted between supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Awami League (AL) in the city of Sirajganj (Sirajganj district) on Sunday, December 8. Clashes broke out after rallies of both parties encountered on EB road, prompting police to fire live ammunition in the air to disperse the crowd.

A heightened security presence and localized transportation disruptions are expected in the area over the coming days as the BNP have called for nationwide rallies on Tuesday, December 10, to mark International Human Rights Day. Further clashes cannot be ruled out.
