Timor-Leste: COVID-19 travel restrictions to and from Covalima Municipality lifted, except in Fatumean, as of March 10
Timor-Leste lifts COVID-19-related travel restrictions to and from Covalima, except in Fatumean, March 10. Other measures ongoing.
Event
Officials have lifted travel restrictions to and from Covalima Municipality in western Timor-Leste from March 10 due to decreased COVID-19 activity in the locality. Only the Fatumean area will continue to enforce entry and exit rules through March 21; it is unclear whether the government provides any exemptions from the policy.
Heightened security is likely at Fatumean. Transport and business disruptions are probable.
Covalima will still continue to enforce nationwide protocols to stem the spread of COVID-19. Authorities require people to wear facemasks, frequently sanitize their hands, and maintain a 1-meter (3-feet) distancing from one another when in public. The government is also encouraging people to avoid crowds. Public transport can operate with protocols, including cleaning the vehicles daily. The continued measures across Covalima may prompt transport and business disruptions.
Covalima Municipality is approximately 52 km (32 miles) south-southwest of Dili.
Advice
Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid all nonessential operations in areas still impacted by continued restrictions. Confirm appointments. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers.
