Context

Boko Haram will continue to pose a significant threat to security in northeastern Nigeria and the border areas with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger in the coming months. The militant Islamist group has increased activity in Nigeria's northeast and neighboring countries, with notable attacks in Nigeria and Chad in 2020. The conflict will almost certainly continue but is unlikely to spread beyond northeast Nigeria, southern Niger, the Far North region of Cameroon, and the greater Lake Chad area. Factions will likely continue in a state of attritional warfare, inflicting damage to morale, personnel, and buildings of regional forces.
