Event
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party supporters based in Australia plan to hold protest marches in Adelaide and Melbourne April 16-17 in support of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. Organizers have called for rallies at the following locations:
Adelaide: Elders Park to Parliament of South Australia 11:00 April 16
Melbourne: Federation Square to Parliament House from 13:30 April 17
Several dozen to a few hundred people will likely participate in the protests. Participants could also gather at public squares and government buildings in other parts of Australia, including the Australian Capital Territory.
Officials will likely monitor the protest marches and may try to break up disruptive gatherings. Clashes between police and activists are possible. Protests and accompanying security responses may prompt localized transport disruptions, especially when demonstrators march from protest venues.
Advice
Avoid the rally due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near the demonstration sites.
