Costa Rica: Pride march scheduled in San Jose, June 26

Activists to march in San Jose, Costa Rica, June 26, in support of LGBTQ rights.

Activists plan to demonstrate in central San Jose on June 20. Dubbed the "Diversity March," the purpose of the event is to show support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) rights. Participants will gather at Parque Central starting at 11:00 before marching along Avenida Segunda and Paseo Colon to the Estado Nacional, where a number of events take place.

Additionally, members of the organization Dissident Pride (Orgullo Disidente) plan to hold a separate rally at Plaza de la Cultura, starting at 10:00, also to support LGBTQ rights.

Tens of thousands are likely to participate in the Diversity March, while hundreds are likely to gather at the plaza de la Cultura. Heightened security is likely throughout the impacted area; a are transport and business disruptions.

Plan accordingly for traffic congestion, and allow additional time to travel if transiting through central San Jose on June 26.
