Indonesia: Authorities to impose heightened security in Badung Regency, Bali, due to G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting July 7-8
Officials to enact tight security in Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia, due to G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting July 7-8. Disruptions likely.
Event
Authorities will implement heightened security measures in Badung Regency, Bali Province, due to the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting July 7-8. Foreign dignitaries, including foreign ministers of most G20 members, will attend the event. The programs will occur at several facilities, including Ayana Resort and Spa, Mulia Hotel, and Hilton Bali Resort.
Officials will deploy additional police and military personnel and may close roads in Badung Regency to facilitate security measures in the days prior to, during, and after the events. Tightened security protocols are probable at program sites, the hotels hosting event attendees, and transport centers, like I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Flight delays may occur at DPS due to security restrictions, as well as the arrival and departure of the meeting participants. Transport disruptions are probably nearby the program venues and the roads connecting DPS and the event sites.
Locals or activists may stage demonstrations nearby the program venues to denounce any of the participating nations, including Russia; the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov will attend the event in person. Hundreds of people rallied outside the Ukrainian Honorary Consulate in Bali March 1 to denounce Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Clashes between protesters and security personnel may occur, especially if officials seek to forcibly disperse any gathering.
Advice
Heed all instructions of local authorities. Plan for transport disruptions in Badung Regency and possible flight delays at DPS. Seek alternative routes to avoid the event sites July 7-8. Allow additional time to reach destinations and confirm meetings in the area.
