Malaysia: Authorities lift quarantine requirements for all international arrivals as of Aug. 5 /update 69

Malaysia lifts quarantine requirements for all international arrivals as of Aug. 5. Domestic curbs remain in place.

Warning

Event

Authorities have lifted quarantine and pre-departure test requirements for international arrivals of all vaccination status as of Aug. 5 amid ongoing COVID-19 activity.

Domestic Measures
Malaysia remains under the endemic phase as of Aug. 5. Nationwide protocols, including mandating people to wear facemasks in indoor venues and public transport vehicles and requiring facility owners to ensure good ventilation and perform daily cleaning, remain in place. People who test positive for COVID-19 must quarantine for at least four days. Officials will allow individuals to leave quarantine if they obtain a negative result from a supervised rapid antigen test (RAT) on the fourth day; patients who receive a positive result from the RAT must continue quarantining until the seventh day. The enforcement level of the curbs varies across the country.

Local officials may enforce short-term stricter controls in localities with high COVID-19 activity. State governments may also impose restrictions in addition to central government mandates.

International Travel Restrictions
Authorities may still require symptomatic entrants to undergo further medical checks.

Advice

Follow all official health and safety measures. Ensure contingency plans account for additional disruptive controls or further extensions of current restrictions. Postpone travel if affected by restrictions. Confirm flight status before checking out of accommodation and departing for the airport. Follow all official instructions, particularly if traveling from affected locations. Allow additional time for immigration and health screenings at all ports of entry. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays.
