Malaysia: Authorities lift the requirement for arrivals to obtain a digital traveler's pass from Aug. 1 /update 68

Malaysia lifts the requirement for entrants to obtain a traveler's pass from Aug. 1. Other domestic and international travel curbs in place.

Warning

Event

Authorities no longer require international arrivals to obtain a digital traveler's pass from Aug. 1 amid ongoing COVID-19 activity. Entrants will remain subject to health screening upon arrival and may be required to undergo further medical checks if symptomatic.

Domestic Measures
Malaysia remains under the endemic phase as of Aug. 1. Nationwide protocols, including mandating people to wear facemasks when in indoor venues and public transport vehicles and requiring facility owners to ensure good ventilation and perform daily cleaning, remain in place; the enforcement level varies across the country.

Local officials may enforce short-term stricter controls in localities with high COVID-19 activity. State governments may also impose restrictions in addition to central government mandates.

International Travel Restrictions
Fully vaccinated entrants do not need to provide a pre-departure test result or undergo quarantine upon arrival. The Malaysian government considers a traveler to be fully vaccinated if the person has received a booster COVID-19 dose after receiving Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines for their primary doses, or if the person is aged between 18 and 59 and has received the primary doses of a vaccine by other manufacturers, or if the person is aged 60 and above and has received a booster dose. Partial or unvaccinated entrants must provide a negative PCR test or a professionally administered antigen rapid test (ART) result obtained within 48 hours before departure and take another RAT test within 24 hours after arrival; affected passengers aged 18 and above must also quarantine for five days upon arrival.

Advice

Follow all official health and safety measures. Ensure contingency plans account for additional disruptive controls or further extensions of current restrictions. Postpone travel if affected by restrictions. Confirm flight status before checking out of accommodation and departing for the airport. Follow all official instructions, particularly if traveling from affected locations. Allow additional time for immigration and health screenings at all ports of entry. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays.
