Authorities impose curfews in parts of Kingston, Jamaica, until 20:00 Sept. 8 due to increased violence. Tight security, disruptions likely.
Event
Authorities are imposing curfews in several areas of Kingston as of Sept. 6 to respond to a sharp increase in shooting incidents. A curfew in the Whitfield Town area between Berwick Road, Maxfield Avenue, Alexender Road, and Waltham Road is in effect until 18:00 Sept. 7. In the Waterhouse area, a curfew is in effect between Seaward Drive, Olympic Way, Australia Road, Unity Drive, and Balcombe Drive until 20:00 Sept. 8. Officials have placed a third curfew in the Olympic Park area between McKinley Crescent, Lendene Drive, Olympic Way, and Bay Farm Road until 20:00 Sept. 8. During these curfews, all residents are required to stay in their homes, unless they have the written permission of authorities.
An increased security presence and business and transit disruptions are almost certain in the affected areas until the curfews expire. Further violence is possible.
Advice
Abide by the conditions of the curfews. Consider deferring travel to the impact areas until the curfews are over. Plan for business and transit disruptions in the area. Heed the advice of security personnel.
