Activist groups and opposition parties could stage additional demonstrations in Seoul as of Nov. 8 over the government’s alleged poor response to a crowd crush in Itaewon Oct. 29. Public anger remains high over the incident, which left 156 people dead and 196 others injured. Thousands of people protested in seven locations across the capital Nov. 5. The Candlelight Alliance plans to hold another demonstration in the city from 17:00 Nov. 12 to demand the resignation of President Yoon Suk-yeol. Future rallies could occur at Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul City Hall Plaza, or other prominent demonstration sites.

Officials will almost certainly increase security near protests as a precaution. Police could enact checkpoints and roadblocks depending on the scale of the demonstrations. Subway and bus service disruptions may occur. Localized business disruptions are also possible near rally sites.

Exercise caution near announced demonstrations. Monitor trusted local media for updates on protest locations as organizers may not announce them in advance.
