Italy: Unionized airport workers set to strike nationwide, April 2

Multiple unions representing airport staff to strike across Italy, April 2. Flight disruptions likely; protests possible.

Warning

Event

Multiple unions representing airport staff plan to strike nationwide on April 2 over pay disputes and other working conditions. The strike is due to last from 13:00 to 17:00; however, some disruptions are likely before and after this period. The UGL-TA and UNICA, FILT-CGIL and Uiltrasporti, and FIT-CISL labor unions plan three separate national strikes. Separate local strike action is also scheduled at Bologna (BLQ), Naples (NAP), and Rome Urbe (No IATA Code) Airports. The industrial action will impact airport handling, security, aviation, and other support services. The cumulative impact of the actions is likely to vary at different airports.

Airport operations and services are likely to be significantly disrupted throughout the day. Passengers may experience delays during check-ins, security procedures, and boarding. Flight delays and cancellations are possible. Strike-related protests could occur, although significant protest-related disruptions are unlikely.

Advice

Confirm all flight reservation details if planning to travel April 2. Prepare for delays and congestion at airports; allow extra time for airport arrival and security procedures. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed. Exercise caution near any workers' protests. Monitor official channels for updates on strike action in your travel area.
