Italy: Unionized rail workers set to strike nationwide from 09:00 to 17:00 April 14

Multiple unions representing railway staff plan to strike across Italy 09:00 to 17:00 April 14. Rail disruptions, and protests are likely.

Warning

Event

Six separate labor unions representing Trenitalia railway staff plan to strike nationwide from 09:00 to 17:00 on April 14. The FILT CGIL, FIT CISL, Uiltrasporti, UGL Ferrovieri, OrSA Ferrovie, and FAST-Confsal unions are calling for industrial action over pay and working conditions. Trenord, the rail operating company in the Lombardy Region, has warned of an additional strike affecting private and public transport. Workers represented by the USB Lavoro Privato, SGB, and CUB Trasporti unions plan industrial action for the same period. Trenord state that in the event of rail disruptions, a bus service will provide transport to and from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP).

Rail passengers will likely experience delays and cancellations on the nationwide Trenitalia rail network. Disruptions may continue through the evening of April 14 as services return to normal. Strike-related pickets could occur, although significant protest-related disruptions are unlikely.

Advice

Confirm all rail travel reservation details if planning to travel April 14. Prepare for delays and congestion at railway stations; allow extra time for travel. Expect higher than normal demand for alternative transport options. Exercise caution near any workers' protests.
