Police are responding to a shooting incident in Glyfada, around 12 km (7 miles) south of Athens, on Feb. 12. An armed assailant has barricaded themself inside the office of a shipping company on Artemisiou Street after firing several gunshots in the building, reportedly killing one person and injuring two others. The assailant is believed to be a former employee of the company. A police negotiator is on the scene to defuse the situation; a wider threat to the general public is not anticipated.
Authorities will almost certainly maintain a tight security posture in the area over the coming hours. Police have cordoned off several roads while their response continues, including Poseidon Avenue, Fleming Square, Karamanli Street, Calypso Street, Artemisiou Street, and Rodiris Street.
