Greece: Activists to conduct several protests in Athens March 20

Activists to protest at multiple locations in central Athens, Greece, March 20. Heightened security likely.

Activists affiliated with multiple organizations plan to protest in various areas in Athens on March 20. Activists will hold demonstrations at three ministries from mid-day. At the Ministry of the Interior building on Leof. Vasilissis Sofias, activists affiliated with the Association of Special Educational Staff of Special Education of Attica (SEEPA ATTICA), plan to protest from 12:00 to denounce social exclusion. Additionally, unionized factory workers will demonstrate at the Ministry of Finance on Karagiorgi Servias from 12:00 to demand the reopening of a factory. Finally, Unionized workers plan to protest and hold a press conference at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security building on Stadiou from 12:30 to denounce alleged anti-labor legislation. It is unknown how many participants the demonstrations will attract.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all protest sites. Confrontations, potentially escalating to clashes, between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Athens. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
