Transport disruptions reported on Manhattan Bridge in New York, N.Y., US, as of the evening May 11 due to protest. Scuffles reported.
Transport disruptions are reported, and the Manhattan Bridge is partially blocked amid a pro-Palistinian protest on the Manhattan-bound upper-level westbound lanes. Demonstrators initially gathered for a rally at Brooklyn's Barclays Center before moving to the bridge, where they reportedly pushed past a police barricade to cross it. Scuffles between demonstrators and law enforcement officers were subsequently reported. At least one police officer received minor injuries, and at least 30 protesters were detained.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely on and near the Manhattan Bridge through the evening. Further confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, potentially escalating to clashes, cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the Manhattan Bridge. Allow additional time if traveling near the demonstration area. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
