France: Aviation workers further extend nationwide strike warning through at least July 6 /update 3

Aviation workers, including ATC personnel, extend strike warning across France until July 6. Sporadic air travel disruptions possible.

Informational

Sporadic air travel disruptions are possible at airports in France through at least July 6. On June 24, the USAC CGT labor union, which represents a minority of French air traffic controllers (ATC), extended its formal strike warning to the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) until July 6. Union leaders denounce a perceived deterioration in public services and differentiated treatment of ATC personnel based on rank. As of June 27, organizers have not announced specific plans for dates and locations of walkouts.

Any walkouts will likely occur with little or no warning, resulting in scattered air travel disruptions. Picket protests are possible at airports; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations that may materialize.

Reconfirm planned air travel during the strike period. Do not check out of accommodations before onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional time for air travel during the strike period. Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near demonstrations.

The ATC strike warning has been in place since May 31; however, only one disruptive walkout has taken place: on June 4, ATC personnel walked out at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS), disrupting around 25 percent of flights.
