Ghana: Authorities ban demonstrations scheduled in Accra from July 31
Police forces ban protests scheduled at Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana, from July 31-Aug. 6. Increased security likely.
Police forces have banned planned demonstrations at Black Star Square (also known as Independence Square) in Accra from July 31-Aug. 6. Several civil society groups called for gatherings from 10:30-23:59 daily over concerns including corruption, increased taxes, and youth unemployment. Protesters may still gather. Similar gatherings may occur elsewhere in Accra and Ghana.
Heightened security and localized traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the Black Square to prevent the gathering. Should activists attempt to assemble, clashes are likely, as security forces will likely disperse any gathering that materializes.
Avoid all protests. Avoid the protest location and consider other routes. Depart the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
