Greece: Educators to demonstrate in Thessaloniki July 15

Educators to protest at offices of Directorate of Secondary Education in Thessaloniki, Greece, July 15. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Unionized educators plan to protest in Thessaloniki July 15. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce policy changes advanced by the Ministry of Education. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend. The following demonstrations are planned:

  • Protest at the Directorate of Secondary Education of Western Thessaloniki on Kolokotroni from 11:00.

  • Protest at the Directorate of Secondary Education of Eastern Thessaloniki at the intersection of Dimitriou and Katsimidis from 13:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest sites. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the protest areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest sites. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
