The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) has issued a Watch and Act warning for a grass fire between Camden Valley Way and Talana Hill Drive in the City of Liverpool in southwestern Sydney as of the afternoon of Aug. 28. NSW RFS downgraded the alert to the second-highest level out of a three-tier scale after previously issuing an Emergency Warning (highest level). The fire started at around 14:00. Up to 80 firefighting personnel are on site to tackle the blaze. Officials have closed Camden Valley Way and Bringelly Road between Talana Hill Drive and Skyline Crescent and are advising drivers to use alternative roads. T2 Inner West & Leppington Line trains are also suspended between Glendfield and Leppinton; officials are asking commuters to use local buses until replacement services are available.
Heightened security and transport disruptions will likely continue in the coming hours. Officials may mandate evacuations and additional road closures until they extinguish the fire.
The incident site is approximately 37 km (22.9 miles) southwest of Sydney's CBD.
Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent related disruptions. Reconfirm train schedule and take alternative transport if necessary. Consider remaining indoors if smoke is heavy, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure.
