Firefighters are responding to a structure fire on Zemunska Ulica in the Blok 64 area of Belgrade as of late afternoon Aug. 3. The fire, which began in an abandoned factory at about 16:30, is reportedly producing significant amounts of thick smoke in the area. The cause of the blaze remains unclear. Authorities reported that no casualties occurred as of late afternoon. Large numbers of police and emergency medical personnel have also deployed to the scene.
Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area until the fire has been completely extinguished. Business disruptions and heavy smoke will probably affect the vicinity of the incident site well into the evening hours. Localized transport disruptions are possible near the incident site.
Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional time for travel near the scene of the fire. Follow all instructions from security personnel, including any evacuation orders. Consider remaining indoors to avoid smoke exposure, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma, or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water.
