Greece: Activists to demonstrate in Athens Sept. 13
Activists to protest at the Ministry of Asylum and Immigration in Athens, Greece, from 09:30 on Sept. 13. Heightened security likely.
Activists plan to protest at the Ministry of Asylum and Immigration on Thivon in Athens from 09:30 Sept. 13. The purpose of the demonstration is to demand the approval of asylum requests filed by survivors of the June 2023 Pylos shipwreck. It was not immediately clear how many participants may attend.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest site. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
On June 14, 2023, a fishing vessel carrying about 750 migrants sank near Pylos, Greece, leaving at least 600 people dead. Activists have consistently demonstrated since this incident accusing authorities of responsibility for the shipwreck.
