Authorities have discovered and plan to dispose of an unexploded WWII bomb in the Schanzenviertel area of Hamburg on Oct. 12. The unexploded ordnance was found on Schanzenstraße near the train station during construction. As of the afternoon of Oct. 12, authorities have established a security cordon with a radius of 300 meters (328 yards) and plan to evacuate the area, affecting around 4,500 residents. Railway services through the area have reportedly been suspended.

Heightened security, railway travel disruptions, and road closures are likely for the duration of the disposal operation. Lingering disruptions are possible after the operation concludes.

Avoid the affected area until authorities give the all-clear. Allow additional time if traveling near the evacuation zone. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
