Emergency crews are responding to a crash involving a small plane near Gastao Madeira State Airport (UBT) in Ubatuba, Sao Paulo State, on Jan. 9. There were at least five people on board the aircraft traveling to UBT from Mineiros, Goias State, when it lost control while attempting to land. The plane caught fire and crossed Rua Guarani before crashing in Praia do Cruzeiro. Reports suggest the pilot was killed, four passengers have been hospitalized, and several pedestrians in the area have also been injured.

Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business will likely affect the vicinity of the crash site over the coming hours. Authorities will probably close some local roads to traffic to facilitate the emergency response. Flight disruptions may affect UBT over the short term.
