Authorities will dispose of an unexploded World War II bomb in central Dresden, Saxony, on Jan. 9. The unexploded bomb was discovered in the Elbe River near the Carola Bridge in the city center. Officials will implement a 1,000-meter (3,280-foot) evacuation zone. Evacuations will conclude by 09:00 Jan. 9; disposal operations will likely begin following the conclusion of the evacuations. Police have closed multiple roads, including Terrassenufer and Rathenauplatz, during the site investigation on Jan. 8.

Heightened security will likely affect areas near the bomb site for the duration of the operation. Significant transport and business disruptions are likely in the impacted area.

Consider taking alternate routes to reduce travel delays if traveling through Dresden. Allow additional time for travel near the operation site. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
