A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck northern Iraq and Iran on Sunday, November 12, at 21:18 (local time). The epicenter was located 30 km (19 mi) southwest of Halabja, the capital of Iraq's Halabja province. An immediate tally of associated damage and casualties is not yet available.

Aftershocks are possible, and can be of higher magnitude than the initial tremor.
