Risk Management
Risk management identifies threats and issues that pose a danger to a company, its employees or its facilities before they occur. Risk management allows the implementation of appropriate processes to prevent the risk, minimize its impact or initiate a response.
With the right measures in place, risk management allows organizations to prepare for and mitigate the impact and costs of threats and unexpected events. Equally important, a comprehensive risk management program ensures that the organization is able to fulfill its duty of care to its employees.
A comprehensive risk management program should, for example, include measures to anticipate threats by identifying, assessing and mapping them; prepare the organization with concrete processes and contingency plans to respond in the event of a crisis; and, finally, recover quickly after a crisis.
Organizations have a moral and legal obligation to ensure the safety of their employees. Regardless of whether employees are in an office, working from home or traveling for business, it is essential to have the policies, procedures, systems and training in place to fulfill Duty of Care.
While demonstrating concern for the well-being of employees is above all a human and legal obligation for companies, there is also a strong business case for it.
Duty of Care may include the responsibilities of an organization whose employees are required to travel and work abroad. For example, the employer may be responsible for ensuring safe transport for an employee who is in an unstable area, or for having a repatriation plan in place in the event of a crisis.
A risk management platform is an online and mobile tool that allows an organization to monitor potential threats in order to protect its assets, locations and personnel. By using expert analysis, predictive modeling and artificial intelligence to anticipate the impact of risks, the platform allows the organization to quickly visualize and assess security data to make informed and proactive decisions. A comprehensive platform can also provide mass notification and reporting capabilities.
Executive protection refers to the security and risk mitigation measures taken to ensure the safety of individuals at risk. Executive protection can include preliminary investigations, bodyguards and static guards, secure transportation, and travel logistics.
Individuals who require executive protection are those who may be at high risk due to their employment, notoriety, financial worth, affiliations, location, or any other reason that could make them a target for physical attacks or kidnapping.
Crisis response refers to all planning and actions to handle crises, critical incidents, and natural or man-made disasters. Crisis response is also about mitigating the impact of a crisis on the organization and its personnel.
Risk assessment aims to provide a clear picture of the security risks an organization may face, whether they are external or internal. By identifying potential health and safety hazards and evaluating existing controls, an organization can lower certain costs, reduce workplace injuries, protect its resources, and improve its brand and reputation.
Cyber risk management is about protecting an organization's IT systems and digital data from theft and financial loss, as well as from any disruption, reputational damage or other cyberattack, such as a ransomware attack.
