Barbados: Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) reopens August 27 /update 1

Authorities reopened Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) as of 07:00 (local time) on Tuesday, August 27, following the passage of Tropical Storm Dorian. Officials had closed BGI on Monday, August 26, as Dorian approached the island nation. Residual flight delays and cancellations are possible over the coming hours and days. 

The Barbados Meteorological Service has discontinued the Tropical Storm Warning affecting the island as of 02:00 on Tuesday, August 27. As of 11:00 on August 27, Dorian is located approximately at 14.2°N 61.8°W (map here) and is exhibiting maximum sustained wind speeds of 83 kph (51 mph). The storm is tracking west-northwest at a speed of 20 kph (13 mph).

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate adverse weather and power and transportation disruptions, and remember that running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult - and never drive through flooded streets; floodwater may also contain wastewater and chemical products.
