Togo: Presidential elections to be held on February 22
Togo to hold presidential elections on February 22, 2020; political rallies and protests anticipated in the lead up to the elections

The government of Togo announced on Thursday, December 6, that presidential elections will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Should presidential candidates fail to obtain a majority greater than 51 percent, a second round of presidential elections will be organized. Polling stations are due to open nationwide from 07:00 to 16:00 (local time) on February 22.
Political rallies and protests are anticipated in the lead up to the elections and following the result of the election; a heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be anticipated near all such demonstrations.
Context
President Faure Gnassingbé has led Togo since 2005, and is expected to run for a fourth term in the 2020 elections.
In May, parliament approved a constitutional amendment capping the presidential mandate to two five-year terms, allowing President Gnassingbé to potentially stay in office until 2030.
