An explosion occurred near the Malan Bridge in southern Herat around 2230 Jan. 19. An explosive device apparently targeted a security force position, wounding at least six personnel. Officials have blamed the attack on Taliban militants.
Authorities have deployed additional security personnel to the incident scene. Officials will likely maintain heightened security and continue road closures near the blast site through at least early Jan. 20. Localized disruptions are likely to continue.
