Cape Verde ends COVID-19-related state of calamity and enters state of contingency, as of Aug. 5. Travel restrictions remain.

Warning

Event

As of Aug. 5, authorities have amended the COVID-19-related state of calamity due to an improving epidemiological situation. On July 30, the government declared a state of contingency and eased various domestic restrictions. Restaurants and bars may operate until 23:59, while most other businesses must close at 20:30 except for essential businesses such as pharmacies. Bakeries are permitted to stay open until 21:00. Social gatherings up to ten individuals are permitted between family relatives only. The use of facemasks remains mandatory in public places. Inter-island flights and maritime transport are operating. Travelers from select islands must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before departure.

Commercial international air and maritime travel is continuing in Cape Verde. Travelers entering the country must prove having tested negative for COVID-19 using a test taken no more than 72 hours before travel. Persons must also complete an online health surveillance form and an airport security tax form before arrival. Travelers who fail to meet the 72-hour threshold will not be allowed to leave the port of entry or disembark until a negative result has been reported.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements before departure. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
