Warning

Event

Unionized teachers affiliated with the Educators Federation of Paraguay (Federacion de Educadores de Paraguay, FEP) and the Education Workers' Organization of Paraguay-Authentic (Organizacion de Trabajadores de la Educacion de Paraguay-Autentica, OTEP-A) plan to hold a 48-hour nationwide strike and protests in all departments of the country, Aug. 10-11. The protest action is to demand higher salaries for education workers.

While most protest sites have not been confirmed, activists have announced plans to gather along Costanera de Asuncion in Asuncion starting at 08:00. Demonstrators could march to nearby government buildings, including the National Congress of Paraguay. Demonstrations in other cities are likely to occur near government buildings.

Heightened security is likely near any protests that may materialize, especially those around government buildings. Transport and business disruptions associated with the protests are possible, especially in Asuncion, where thousands may participate in the demonstrations.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations in the vicinity of demonstration sites. Heed the instructions of local security personnel. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a secure location.
