Authorities plan to impose partial road closures for the N3 highway at Lions River, KwaZulu-Natal Province, Aug. 16-Sept. 1. The measures will affect both northbound and southbound traffic on the N3 between Durban and Johannesburg. During the closures, officials will divert northbound traffic from the N3 to R103 at the Howick/Midmar off-ramp (exit 103) and southbound traffic at the Nottingham off-ramp (exit 132). The timeframes for the road closures are as follow:
10:00-12:00 Aug. 16
10:00-12:00 Aug. 17
10:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00 Aug. 23
10:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00 Aug. 24
10:00-12:00 Aug. 25
14:00-16:00 Aug. 31
10:00-12:00 Sept. 1
Ground transportation disruptions are almost certain during the closures. Increased travel times and congestion are likely along alternative routes.
Context
Eskom is closing the N3 to replace overhead transmission line structures and conductors across the highway to maintain electrical services in the area.
Advice
Seek alternative routes and allow additional travel time between Durban and Johannesburg along the N3 Aug. 16-Sept. 1.
