The Democratic Alliance (DA) and supporters of former president Jacob Zuma plan to rally near the High Court in Bloemfontein from 08:00 Aug. 11. Demonstrators plan to move to Hertzong Park after gathering near the High Court. The protest coincides with the corruption court case of former Free State Premier Ace Magashule. Dozens to hundreds of people could participate in the gathering.

Heightened security, including road closures and checkpoints, are almost certain around the High Court and near protest sites. Localized business and transportation disruptions are likely. Clashes between demonstrators and security forces are possible.

Context

Magashule, along with five other individuals, is facing 13 charges, including fraud, corruption, and money laundering, in connection to an asbestos removal contract awarded during his time as the Free State premier. He is accused of receiving kickbacks from the contracted business.
