UK: London Underground workers suspend planned strikes Aug. 3-6 /update 1

Unionized London Underground workers in London, UK, suspend planned strikes Aug. 3-6 amid talks. Further planned walkouts remain.

Warning

Event

London Underground workers affiliated with the Rail, Maritime, and Transport (RMT) union have suspended their planned strikes Aug. 3-6 following late conciliatory talks. RMT is still planning to strike during the following time frames if negotiations over a pay dispute fail:

  • 12:00 Aug. 24-11:59 Aug. 25

  • 12:00 Aug. 26-11:59 Aug. 27

Unless the labor action is averted, severe disruptions to underground rail services are likely on the announced strike days. Increased demand for alternative forms of transport, including buses and rental vehicles, is possible during the strike periods. Traffic will likely be heavier than usual in London as an increased number of commuters resort to using personal vehicles rather than public transport.

Advice

Allow additional time to reach destinations throughout London on strike dates. Confirm taxi and rental car reservations.
