Officials in Louisiana, US, reimpose a statewide facemask order through at least Sept. 1, due to increases in COVID-19 infections.

Warning

Event

Officials in Louisiana have issued orders to reimpose a statewide requirement for individuals aged five years and older to wear protective facemasks in all indoor public locations, through at least Sept. 1, due to increases in COVID-19 infections. People with certain medical issues are exempted, as well as individuals who are actively eating or drinking.

State officials have also issued recommendations for individuals to avoid large indoor gatherings, and move most meetings and events outdoors if possible. Louisiana had lifted all previously imposed COVID-19 restrictions in May, following a significant decrease in infections, and the increase in vaccination rates.

Additionally, the city of New Orleans has reimposed some business and gathering restrictions, including a 250 people limit for indoor gatherings. Large indoor events are allowed at 50 percent capacity, unless the use of facemasks if enforced, or if all guests are vaccinated or have recently tested negative for COVID-19. Authorities could reimpose or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
